PC will not power on

A friend of mine is having problems with his rig. it's about 2 years old. he said he came home form work and turned it on and nothing happened. He said he kind of smelled smoke. He replaced the PSU, and that didn't change it, but he said after replacing the PSU the standby LED on the mobo is flashing. Any idea what could be the problem? Only details i know are is that the mobo is a DFI lanparty ultra-d.

I believe that motherboard has four power cables, so confirm they're all hooked up. #1 is a bit tricky to spot if you're not expecting it.
