PC will not post until I "mash" the reset button!?!

I don't get it. I switched out my daughter's old P2 MB for my son's ASUS K7M board. Unfortunately, it will not post from a cold startup. Once I have turned it on I can hear the HD spin up however nothing but a black screen. Once I hit the reset switch the machine boots into WIN98 just fine. I can do a restart and the machine boots into Windows. This problem only manifests itself when I start from a cold boot. I have changed video cards which didn't help

I am completely clueless guys. The specs on this machine are as follows: Win 98 SE, 2 128 meg Mushkin, 10 gig HD, Voodoo 3 3000, SB live, athlon 800 slot 1.

Any one have a clue or suggestion? thanks

Interesting read I might add. However I'm not inclined to do that kind of MOD. I have a bioengineer friend at the hospital I work at and I'm certain he could do that kind of MOD for me.

This is odd because I bought this Chieftec case with a 420 Watt power supply. Max output at 5 and 3.3 volts is 235 watts. The power supply is made my Channel Well technology. It must be a POS power supply. I'm thinking about putting back in my old 250 watt supply I knew worked with that MB and processor.

thanks for the link.

It's not really about the power output, it is because it can't provide the power fast enough initially.

Uhm... So what you're saying is I'm SOL and will just have to the MOD or push the reset switch? Neither of which are all too palatable. I suppose I better instruct my four year old daughter on how to "mash" the reset switch. Be afraid!
