PC will not cut off, it restarts. Could it be the case?

I have an old atx case that a 350 amd mobo came out of and I put a new biostar and ecs mobo in two different cases (same lot) and when you power down by holding in the button on both, they stop and when the button is released, they restart again. Then if you press it in again, they turn off. If you hold it in for 6-10 seconds after the cpu fan turns off they stay off.

I think it is something in the switch on these cases?? This happens with different ps, and these two different mobo running 1800+xp and 2500 +XP chips. These same mobo work fine in brand new cases?? With the difference being 20-30 per case, I would not worry about it if I did not have 35 of these cases!! The ones that have working AMD 350s work fine, just new stuff??

Any sugestions or solutions?? Thanks in advance.

You'll need to go into the BIOS under power management and tell it how you want it to respond to pressing the power button.

The same motherboard cuts off fine with a different case though. I have not had this problem with other cases?? I will try an see if this could be the case though.

Thanks

Perhaps your connection to the mobo from the power button is reversed?

Since it's a only switch, the polarity shouldn't matter right?

I already thought of flipping it around and that did not work either.

I have a EPOX 266 chipset HAL in one and a biostar m7viz in the other one? Both work the same when you boot off a cd or folppy or need to push the power button to turn them off the pc turns off and when you release the power button they come back on unless you hold it in for about 10 extra seconds. The next time after it starts back up, it cuts off and stays off??

Thanks

that setting is usually in the bios, where you can change the behaviour of the power button. Usually it's either "Instant off" or "4 sec delay" - which sounds like what your system is set to.

In theory, the power button is only a switch, so the polarity of the should not matter. However I've seen several mobos that don't operate properly unless it is plugged in a specific orientation.
