PC will get e-mail, but not internet?

Hi. I've gone through a lot of tech support in the past few days, all with the new transfer from @home to Comcast (it's HELL!).

I have one major problem that I want to solve first:

I took out the router for the conversion and went right into my PC. Most went well, except now I can get e-mail on that machine, as well as connect to instant messenger, Kazaa, FTP, etc., but if I open my web browser, I get "Web site found. Waiting for reply..." and nothing else. It fails after 60 seconds. Almost all my internet access works correctly except for my browser.

After 5 hours of tech support in 30 different queues, their conclusion was that my settings were all correct, so it must be a local (town or something) outage only in that port, as weird things have been going on. I just disconnected the wire and popped it into my old machine (that had internet through the router), and AHH! Internet Access! What a surprise.

So anyway, what could it be that would keep my computer from receiving stuff from IE? I tried disabling my firewall, and everything else. The weird thing is that I get to the "Web site found" part. Wouldn't it be stuck usually on "Searching for _"?

Thanks for all help. This is driving me nuts.

Sounds like a software issue to me.

[*]Try running the repair wizard in add/remove programs for IE
[*]Try using Nutscrape or Opera

Great... something stupid Comcast did with forcing me to install their versions of the program, now there's no form of IE in the Add-Remove programs. How can I still repair or install it?

First go to internet options, connections and lan settings.. make sure Proxy server is not enabled.

Also, check you TCP/IP settings and make sure you dont still have your router address as your gateway.

Yeah... both those things are fine... well I gotta find a way to reinstall IE when it hasn't been uninstalled yet... but first i need access on that machine to DL it... wish me luck
