Ok, I've come into some graduation money (c/o 2001!!), and I'm looking to upgrade my computer. Heres my current setup:

500 Mhz AMD K6 w/ 3D**
FIC Motherboard Slot 7**
256 MB ram (PC133)
6 GB Western Digital 5200 RPM (Slowing Dying, 5+ Bad Sectors)*
6 GB Fuji 5200 RPM
Voodoo 5500 AGP w/ 64 MB Ram
Diamond Viper 550 PCI w/ 16 MB Ram (For My 2nd Monitor)
Plextor 12/10/32 IDE w/ Burn-Proof Tech.
Generic 44x CD-Rom*
Creative Labs AWE64 ISA**
Generic Case**
250 Watt Power Supply**
D-Link NIC 10/100

*Needs replacing.
**Would like to replace.

I NEED to replace the HD for sure, with a 40 GB+ 7200 RPM, everything else is just because I wanna replace it. But I'd like to get a ASUS mobo w/ 1.5 Ghz CPU. Any combo deals w/ mobo and CPU, or CPU, mobo and case would also work. I'd also like to replace my CD-ROM with either a DVD-ROM or SCSI Plextor or something similiar. Just looking for some suggestions, imput, costs, etc. No real price limits right now. So get me some good stuff. Thanks.

Asus A7M266 (AMD 760 chipset - no cheap VIA stuff)
AMD Athlon 1.33 GHz (w/ 266 MHz FSB)
Volcano II HSF.
256 DDR RAM (it's cheap enough now to go for it)
Maxtor 60GB 7200rpm
Get a Lian Li case (sweeeeet aluminium :D:D)
Any brand name 16x DVD-ROM will do (Samsung, Aopen, etc.)
SoundBlaster Live! Value 5.1 if you want to stay with Creative Labs stuff, or go for a Santa Cruz card.
Probably will need 350W power supply in this case.

VIA makes great stuff, in fact, the A7M266 uses the VIA 686B southbridge. But why settle for a lackluster A7M266 when you can get much better boards like Epox 8K7A and MSI K7 Master? And if you're smart, you wouldnt get the SB Live! because they're troublesome with some chipsets. Also, telling us your budget would help.
