I am currently using a 4 year old Dell Dimension 2350. Intel P4 1.8 GHz. For the past 3 years, I had add 512MB RAM, 120GB HD, and a DVD burner/player. I have beening thinking of purchasing a brand new computer for the past 6 months but now I decided that all I need is to upgrade the motherboard and CPU.
I am thinking about getting this:

my question is if this is compatible with my current hardwares such as the memory.

If anyone can suggest a better motherboard&CPU combo, please tell me. I don't know anything about a motherboard and/or CPU.

As far as the RAM question goes the answer is no unless you've got some aftermarket RAM in it that is rated at 3200 speed or better.

You'll be able to use the old hard drive, but the copy of Windows that came with it, will go looking for a Dell bios before it will load, so it or any other OEM programming that came with the DEll probably won't either.

The optical drives you can use, but the old power supply won't make it.

wow so I would also have to buy more RAM, a power supply, and a copy of windows??
How about if I upgrade to a P4 with HT? same problems?

Not worth it. Like Luckyboy1 said; about the only thing you can hope to salvage would be the optical drive and HD.

I'm not sure if I need a new motherboard or not but mostly likely it can't be upgraded.
Is there any differences if I upgrade to the P4 with HT instead of Dual core?
