Should I stick with my socket 939 N force 4 board, add another gig of ram and a new processor for ~$100, or should I do a complete upgrade to Intel core 2 duo? Upgrading to C2D would mean buying a new motherboard, throwing out my current RAM and getting DDR2, buying a processor and most likely a new power supply, coming to around $400-450. DDR2 and and dual core processors are pretty much the standard now, but I don't want to spend all that money just to have something better come out a month from now, which is why I'm wondering if I should just wait until new technology is developed and do minor upgrades to my current setup.

In short, is the switch from the old N force 4 socket 939 to Intel's SLI chipset worth it in the long run?

Intel does not have a SLI chipset, NVIDIA does. Intel chipsets use Crossfire and not all of them are 16X16.
As far as when to buy, no matter when you do, there is always something waiting right around the corner, I'm trying to decide when to do a build myself.
Happy holidays.
