I've been having problems with my pc bsod'ing in XP and freezing in Ubuntu. The bsod error is irql_not_less_or_equal, then gives some memory locations at the bottom. I've memtest'ed it with no problems, and orthos with just cpu is fine also, but crashes if I do the mixed cpu and ram test. I've tentatively ruled out a virus because it's happening on two different OS's.

System:
E6750 stock
MSI P35 Neo2
4x1 Gb OCZ DDR2 Gold (I think)
ATI 1900GT

Any suggestions of how to track down the problem?

How long did you run memtest for?
It should be for some time - overnight would be ok.

you'd need to have it tested, they have machines that can thoroughly test ram by themselves. you've done all you can to test, it's now time to let a proper repair center take over.

Before you RMA the motherboard....make sure the following:

1) Adequate power...what is your power supply?

2) Make sure your ram is getting enough voltage...i.e 1.8-2.1v depending on your ram's specs.

3) Are the cpu temps fine?

4) Try running the system with only 1 stick of ram. If stable add another until it becomes unstable.

5) Are you using the latest bios revision?

Good luck! :)

I just started getting the same issue as him. I ran memtest fine for 12 hours, but windows xp is flakey as hell. It seems some update fubured it.

I've basically changed out ram, power supply, cpu. What I haven't changed yet is the videocard and motherboard (don't have another mobo). I had one drive that was loud at startup that is a secondary storage array, but that didn't help either with them unplugged. I don't have a clue at this point unless the board is bad, which I have to get a ton of files off of the primary storage array to the secondary (on a raid card) before I can switch mobos. Arghhhhhh

My RMA'd mobo came in. I'm going to put it in tomorrow and see if it helps.

My issues were caused by bad RAM as well....I got the same message several times. I have also heard that it could be the video drivers (or possibly other drivers, for that matter.....).

If the new mobo doesn't work, then I would reinstall all of your necessary drivers.....which you'll be doing anyway, so nevermind, I guess. Wish I had gotten here sooner.....
