The power supply is about half the price of an equivalent good power supply of that wattage. That should tell you something. Replace it with a good brand like Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, and EVGA and see if that fixes the problem.

^^ i'd go 600+ watts... its worth the few extra dollars since the ratings for PSU are only when they're working in brand new condition and degrade over time.

For the specs you listed the 550 should be fine. If you want it to last through upgrades down the road, 600 might be a good idea.

Just a note, that symptom can happen, if you connect the 24-pin ATX (rainbow wires) connector to the mobo, but forget to plug in the +12V ATX12V 4/8-pin connector.

(Hey, it has happened to me a couple of times!)

You say CPU fan spins, and other case fans spin, then they power off instantly. Is the CPU fan header populated with an RPM-sensing ("Tach") fan? Some older Core2-era mobos, if they don't sense tach pulses on the CPU fan header, they will automatically shut down the system within a second or two, to prevent the CPU from burning up.

Need a little more clarity. Did this system ever work? Have you replaced any parts yet? If it worked in the past, did anything happen around the time it stopped working? What case do you have?

When all else fails, remove everything from the case, put the motherboard on a piece of clean cardboard, and do a minimal build. Power supply, one stick of RAM, use on-board graphics if your CPU supports that. There are a ton of guides on-line to show you exactly how to do it.

IF it boots up, shut it down, add the video card, (don't forget to connect your monitor to that port) and try again. If it still boots up, add another stick of RAM and try again. If not, they, odds are, your video card is the problem. (Or your power supply isn't up to the task)

Thanks for the reply,
I'll try this later

The system has worked in the past, this all started when there was long beeps when I booted my pc, the pc never did boot into bios. Only way I got it to turn on was to keep turning it off, till the red light on my pc case displayed. After, I reseated the cpu and I believe this started happening then.

Repair shop will probably sell you new motherboard, cpu, and RAM...you COULD pull the CPU, inspect the board for a bent pin...and maybe fix it yourself if that's the problem

Doublecheck to make sure you have connected the cpu heatsink fan to the correct motherboard connection point. On some boards, there several places you can connect to, but only one is correct, and if the correct connection is not made, the computer will think the cpu is unprotected, and shut down.
