PC to TV with HDMI problems

In the past we have connected our PC to our TV with an HDMI cable and used it as a DVD player. Last week we wanted to play a DVD and we received a message on the TV that there was no signal, and to select another input. We changed the HDMI input, tried a new HDMI cable, changed the monitor display settings on PC, connected HDMI with PC off, tried another PC and another TV but we get the same message. I don't know what else to try except a system restore to the last time we used it successfully. We have a Sony Bravia and an Acer PC. Any suggestions?

How about posting the system specs?

maybe you need to re-install the video driver or possibly your codecs.

Based on your description & troubleshooting so far, it would seem as though either your dvd player & software is no longer functioning correctly, or your HDMI port is poopoo'd...

What OS are you using. Win8 has no DVD playback.

Every Microsoft OS is slightly different setup.

Possible problems:
1. Bad HDMI If you can see your desktop on the TV it works.
2. OS problem like a driver
3. DRM issue
4. Bad DVD Player

[OP said it was a no signal issue, as-in no input received at all. Codecs, bad DVD players, or DRM issues won't cause this.]

What happens when the computer is connected to a monitor with the same cabling and HDMI port (if possible)? If the same issue occurs, it's the port coming from the PC, which is interesting because you say this happens with the second PC as well? Was there a storm recently that could've shorted that port out on both PCs?

Edit: Just realized this was revived from the 31st... I'm guessing OP figured it out or has moved on.

I had sort of the same problem hooking my Dell laptop up to the TV... before the computer could detect the TV, the TV would signal 'no input' and go to sleep. If the OP tried two different computers and multiple ports on the TV, I'm going to guess it's a driver/software issue or the inability to select the TV as the designated monitor.
