PC to tv via HDMI problem with refresh rate maybe?

I am running my ps3 to the tv via an HDMI cable. Picture is perfect. Nothing is off center. Web browsing etc... works just fine. When I try to watch a movie though (via VLC, GOM etc...) I notice a horizontal line that moves from teh top of the screen to the bottom every 5-10 seconds. It's fairly annoying. I figure it has something to do with my refresh rate, but can't figure out how to fix it. The TV is a 52" Samsung LCD and the refresh rate (according to my nvidia control panel) is at 60 hz, same as my laptop monitor. My laptop display is also a 1080p screen.

Any ideas? I tried going through the menu of the tv to find settings related to refresh rate etc... but couldn't really find anything of interest.

Sounds like it has something to do with Vsync

Well I may have found a fix... not sure why though. If I turn off the display on my laptop and just let it display on my tv it fixes the problem.

when you do dual screen, each display's setting are independent, which should make it easier for the video card /driver to not fuck up.

Are your TV and PS3 connected on the same outlet?
