PC to Shelf Stereo

I'm putting together a new PC, and don't have the right setup for a second 4.1 or greater setup. So I'm looking for some kind of 2 speaker setup... I was thinking of getting some altec lansing 2.1s off of newegg.... But then I thought, what if I take the shelf system from my guest bedroom and hook it up to the computer? This thing never gets any use, and I paid $650 for it at Ultimate Electronics a year or two ago.

It's a Denon UD-M30. Has a CD player and AM\FM reciever... looks pretty classy, could probably sit on top of the case or to the side of it... It has a bunch of inputs on the back... and when you scroll through the function list on it, it lists CD-R and Aux 1 and Aux 2 and stuff like that.... So how would I go about hooking this thing up to an Abit NF7 motherboard? I hear the Soundstorm sound is quite good. Oh, and it uses 2 Onkyo speakers... this thing sounds fantastic to me.... Oh, I also have some spare monster cables sitting around still in the packages.

Edit: And it has an optical out on the back... As well as two ports that say "System Connector" 1 and 2 above them... they look like standard type 1/8" miniplug ports.... whereas all the rest are those big RCA type ones.

That's trivially easy. Get a 3.5mm stereo -> dual RCA adapter (you can probably find one from Radio Shack). Use a pair of RCA monster cables between the adapter and the stereo, and you're all set. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that those speakers are almost certainly not shielded, so if you have a CRT you won't be able to get them too close to your monitor before the stray magnetic field causes distortion in the image.

if you are planning on hooking this up, let me know because i have the cable they are talking about laying around here and im not planning on using it. i have a 20 or 25 ft extension cable also. drop me a pm and i can mail it to you for real cheap.

I run the same kind of setup--computer to a cheapo Panasonic mini-system. It sounds much better than PC speakers, but the magnetic interference is a bit of a bother so I have to keep the speakers a couple of feet away from the monitor.

Not better than klipsch speakers.... 😛

I think I'm just gonna lay out for some Klipsch or Altec 2.1s.

its just a standard headphone to RCA jack "y" plug addapter. I would go to Bust Buy and get a good one (Monster Cable). It should work fine.
