PC to plasma TV,no sound =(

I have my Samsung series 4 450 42 inch plasma hooked up to my PC with DVI/HDMI cable for video and 2 RCA/3.5 MM for audio.The soundcard is a sound blaster audigy SE.

I am trying to watch movies on my TV that are saved on my PC.Video works but no sound.

I have everything connected properly according to Samsung.

Went through troubleshooting with Creative and everything is setup properly/unmuted...My regular desktop speakers work fine as well.

At the end of the conversation the creative guy puts me on hold then comes back and tells me that the soundblaster audigy SE does not support HDMI audio.When i ask him which sound card does he tells me none of them currently support this set up.

Does this sound right to anyone? Does anyone know of a sound card that will work or have any suggestions or advice?

Does the RCA's you plugged into on your tv correspond to that HDMI?

For example on my Sharp TV I have 2x HDMI

Both can do HDMI audio, whereas one can also do audio via RCA and the other cannot.

It is a little odd, but I'd check that.

Also, which ouput are you using for the SB ?
 
The Samsung manual states that if you are using DVI/HDMI adapter you must use HDMI input #2. What BassBoomb is saying seems to be correct. This is based on the instructions found at the bottom of page 11 in the Samsung manual which describes hooking up a device with DVI to the TV's HDMI connector. Are you using HDMI input #2? They have specific instructions on which RCA connectors to use for this set up.

The Audigy doesn't support HDMI audio but that isn't what you are trying to do so don't worry about that.

I am using HDMI 2.The 2 audio ports right next to it say DVI IN(HDMI 2) above the ports then under (L) Audio (R) under it.I have the RCA plugged in there.

There are 4 ports on the soundcard,peach,black,green and blue.Ive tried every port on the soundcard with no luck.

I got the cable from sunwill.com through amazon.Is it possible they sold me a bad cable?

Could be the cable, do you have a mp3 player or reciever you can try it on?

I normally use the same kind of cable from PC -> Mini Stereo to use as PC speakers.
 
I have an mp3 player.Not sure how i can test the cable with it though.It just has a out port for the headphones and a data input.


Edit: I hooked the 3.5mm end into the mp3 player and tried the DVI audio ports AND the regular AV audio in ports ,tried them with all sources and nothing.Does this prove its the cable?
 
Does the TV sound work for other devices / sources? If this is the first thing you've tried, the TV's speakers might be set to be off. You may have to enable the audio input on the TV.

Since the headphone output from the mp3 player also didn't work, that means that your problem is probably with either the cable or with the TV (either settings, or a physical problem with the TV).

What else do you have hooked up to the TV that's working?
 
A satellite receiver is connected with S Video/composite and an X-Box 360 is connected via component cables.Both have sound.
 
Did you try the mp3 player in one of those inputs yet, or just the HDMI ones?

(As in disconnecting the red/white audio cables for one of those sources and connecting the mp3 player to that connection and then selecting that input on the TV)

For example if you did it with the satellite receiver, you'd get the video from that source but the audio from the mp3 player. If that doesn't work but headphones work from the mp3 player, then I think it's pretty safe to say that the cable is messed up.
 
Ok i tried the cable going from my MP3 player to the input i use for my satellite audio,it worked.I plugged the 3.5 mm end into my pc,it worked as well.So its not the cable.Where does this leave me lol?
 
Well that means that the TV is the culprit.

I'm betting it's something you can adjust in the TV's settings. Does the TV's menu let you select the audio source for HDMI 2? (you want analog rather than digital if those are the options it gives). I haven't looked at your manual yet though to know specifics.

EDIT: Well I looked at the manual and didn't see anything about enabling the audio input.

Can you try it again hooking up just the MP3 player to the DVI IN (HDMI 2) audio input on the TV and make sure your TV is on that input and see if it works?

We've determined that the cable works and your computer is outputting sound.

I don't know what else to tell you.

I think the only possibilities left are

1. there's some setting on the TV that needs to be changed (like audio on that input is muted / audio is turned off on that input / the TV is trying to pull audio off the HDMI connection rather than the analog audio)
2. there's something physically wrong with that input on your TV


 
Yep thats how i have it.I just tried to unplug the HDMI and left the HDMI audio in to see if i got sound,nothing.Ill get back on the horn with samsung and see if i can get ahold of someone who knows what theyre talking about.Would be a bummer if i have to get this serviced,just bought it a month ago.

Good luck.

In the mean time, if you have a set of computer speakers you can use those with the computer instead of the TV's speakers.

In the long term, you could get a real audio system going rather than using the TV speakers :evil:
 
Update: Had samsung techs come out.They were going to replace the main circuit board so i exchanged it since i was within my 30 day time period.Got the new TV(same model) and whaddya know,same problem...Im giving up on this setup =(

Btw..dont GUESS....audio output is always the GREEN one

Please do basic troubleshooting, disconnect HDMI...test sound... this is very, very odd since this shouldnt be any issue (you're on your 3rd set with the same issue!) i really think you maybe use some odd HDMI cable....and the set expects sound from the HDMI and NOT from the RCA....but then....i think HDMI2 doesnt even support sound through the HDMI jack

Do some basic troubleshooting, connect DVD player etc. on the 3 RCAs (just sound)..test sound..exchange cable

Also "does not support HDMI audio"....nonsense..i use my audigy 2 value also. HDMI audio (video/audio over same cable) doesnt even come into play...you use a simple 3.5" cable with two RCAs...and you feed the audio to the two RCA plugs belonging to HDMI2.

That's the basic setup..just to make sure you did everything right.

Edit: Grounding problem? Do you have some weird AC wiring in your house? Try using different power-strip...and move PC AC connector/TV AC connector around....use same AC outlet..and then test using different outlet.

This is so simple that it really baffles me why it wouldnt work.
