PC to PC using Crossover cable is slow

I connected a computer to another by using a crossover cable and transfers range from
2mbps - 7mbps.

I setup the network using the network wizard and assigned IPs to 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3

What is the problem? Also, I can go on both computers and set them to share, but I the only things I can share are the files and folders in Shared Documents even after I changed the settings for sharing and security.

are you using winxp pro ? etc ..

anyway, your card could be talking at half duplex instead of full.. check ur windows settings

manualy set them to 10mbit. Also did you extend the cable by more then one (ie the computers are quite a ways apart from eachother)? Other then that, I blame either shoddy cable, or bad card.

They were approximately 6-7 ft apart and which one is 10mbps?

They are : 100BaseTX
100BaseTXFull_Duplex
10BaseT
10BaseTFull_Duplex
Auto_Config

I know that the 10BaseXXXX are 10mbps, but which one do I pick?

Thanks.

best wouldb ethe fastest full duplex of course. if that doesn't work, drop back. auto should work though.

are you confusing mbits with MByte/s?

even 100base t is kinda slow.
