PC technician finder website

'Ello, I recall from the misspent days of my youth doing my own freelance work that there was an excellent website for finding local freelance computer techs. It would show you all the people who were local, what skills they had listed, their rates for various types of computer work, ratings and reviews they had received from previous clients, etc.

I have Googled quite a bit and for the life of me I cannot find it. I shudder to think that such an excellent resource is no longer out there, and I shudder even more to think what will happen if I am unable to find someone to work on my father's computer. It includes either many hours with me plugged into LogMeIn, or a plane trip. Either way, can anyone help point me in the right direction? I did find a couple sites (www.pcrepairdirectory.com, www.findmeatech.com) but they were both tiny compared to what I recall, and the name was something shorter and catchier, me thinks.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Why not just call a local computer shop, or in the US, look on Craigslist.

Many sites from years ago folded under or were resold and repurposed.

Also this is a high traffic site, maybe if you mention where the PC is, somebody located near there might read it or know someone who is. Last resort, instead of you taking a plane trip he just mails it to you. Think I'd get an estimate from a local shop before doing that.

The point of doing this is to bring someone into my dad's store to do the work at a reasonable rate on site, hence a freelancer, and the primary point of this website was the option to pick and choose based on reviews and testimonials. Suffice it to say my dad hasn't had the best of luck with the shops in his area. Craigslist is right out.

It's a matter of finding the right shop. Similarly your dad could be taken to the cleaners by an individual tech. At least there isn't the shop overhead, but frankly after looking at that site, I saw a lot of people who were not very inclined at all but made the typical BS type resume listings, when all they'd do is the same as anyone here, replace parts till it worked.

I'm not necessarily knocking that approach, but you took a quite backwards approach to solving a problem in that you didn't even describe the problem.

It.

makes.

No.

Sense.

???

Me, I probably could have solved it already but ??? I don't like illogical things so I am gone.

Get references and don't be cheap, good tech can't work for peanuts.

There seems to be a misconception about why I posted. I am not trying to fix a problem, or find a shop, or even find a specific tech. I was just trying to find the name of a specific website that I know used to exist. I appreciate all the advice about how to hire people, truly, but given what I know about my father and what he needs done I felt the specific website I know used to exist would be perfect for what he wanted. Again, I appreciate the advice, but all I really need is the name of the website, if it still exists and anyone knows of it.

Www.geegatoo.com is similarish to what I recall but the site I was listed on back in the day was more like a "find a doctor near you" type website. Reviews, lists of services offered, rates, etc.

Dude, relax. I never even said anything was broken, I said he needed some work done, in this case it would be a combination of setting up hardware, software, and planning out a strategy to achieve a specific goal. I'm quite pleased that you are confident about your PC skills, confidence is a good thing to have, but you are trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist. If you don't know the name of the website it's OK, I promise I won't let it ruin my high opinion of you.

lol

Ok, here's the internet and me hating long posts...

... just some ideas, take them or leave them. I'm old school, if you want to totally ignore my post that's ok. it's just text on the internet...

but, my point still stands, providing more details is a good thing.

You don't need to embark on a quest to find a specific website from the past to solve a PC problem. Feel free to totally ignore this post, I'm not from your planet and don't understand the society there...

Well at least we agree on one thing: ignoring you is a great idea.

Thanks for the help everyone.
