so basically i was replacing my thermal paste and one of the nails got stuck in this slot you can see in the photo and i ended up having to remove the slot and refastening it into the bracket which is fairly annoying to do. In doing so i managed to damaged my motherboard around the edge of the motherboard socket as you can see in the photo i was wondering is this the type of damage that could cause issue with my pc to stutter and for my audio to be a bit dodgy at times. I seem to have this issue when i get stuttering on my pc or lagg when doing a random task and then my mic stops working in discord and i have to unplug it and plug it into another usb slot to get it to work. i have no idea if this would cause damage to the motherboard or not im betting it would be i need some advice cause im not sure whether to replace the motherboard or what to do.

Yes, if you physically damaged the motherboard, and are now having problems with it, you should replace the motherboard.

If you're still unsure, take it to a local PC repair shop and have them test it.

IF you didn't get the heat sink attached properly , the CPU could be overheating causing the stutter.

That's nothing to worry about as far as I can see.
I can't see that affecting the motherboard.

Maybe the heat sink or the bracket is damaged or bent. The weight of the heat sink if it is heavy could also be a factor. The heat sink might not be making good contact or may be slightly mis aligned causing it not to make good contact. What CPU cooler did you use?

I wonder also if the motherboard is flexing. They can bend a bit. The motherboard might not be mounted very well.

I also don't see any damage from your pics. But you said there was damage around the "socket" but all your pics seem to be centering around a mounting hole.If there is damage to one of the traces on the board, that could be a problem. Then you talk about moving the mic to another USB port. Again, if you hit one of the trace lines for USB, and you are using a rear USB connection, there is a possibility there.

You also didn't say if this slowness started before or after you replaced the thermal paste, or why you did so. My suggestion would be to use a program like CPUID Hardware Monitor TO tell us what the high temps of each CPU core is, and send us some specifications of your computer.
