PC Speaker Problems

Doesn't seem to be an "Audio" forum and I don't think this belongs in Gen Hardware so here goes. Got an Altec 5.1 system that I bought a long time ago, ~ 4 yrs old? Anyway, just about a week ago it started to crackle at completely random times. I'd be listening to mp3s and it'll crackle. Stop listening at it'll still crackle. By crackle I mean imagine if you are plugging in a powered set of speakers into a sound card, you get almost a loud rustling noise. I've checked all of my connections and they seem fine. It's weird because I can go a couple days with it performing fine then have it crackle every other minute. Ideas?

Are the speakers hooked up with normal speaker wire? Try replacing the wire. Also, if there's some sort of intereference in the area that could be causing the crackle...alternatively, if could be your sound card.

its not speaker wire that i purchase seperately no. it just has the stock one that comes from the sub that plugs into the sound card mini-din. hrm, never thought it might be the sound card, might have to try my brothers when i get home. could it be drivers? i have the nforce intergrated sound.
