I've been a long time lover of my BA4800 I paid like $200 for about... wow. 5 years ago.

They're slowly dying. The front speakers seem to be blown a bit and wiring is coming and going. I gotta get a new one.

The thing about Boston Acoustics speakers is that they're very very crisp and clear sounding. I've seen many other PC systems made by Logitech and others that are far newer, yet I noticed they still can't match my speaker's bright crisp sound. This is what I want.

My goal is to find a comparable system. Please help me pick out a new system. I'm sure I don't have to shell out $200 to buy a comparable system. Thanks!

<--- AV/HT forum over there.
Hint: I think there is a 4.1 Logitech system (has THX marking or something forgot model #) that will sound about the same.

Your setup and room has an impact on that aspect of the sound quality. If you listened to the other speakers at bestbuy, bets are all off. I would check out Klipsch Promedia. Their's horn tweeters should have more extended response and power handling than the speakers you have now. Otherwise, are you ready for getting real speakers? For more info, post in here

PC kits oft suffer from noisy amplifers. That would drive me mental. Plus, they are integrated and tend to be overpriced. So I prefer a modular system: independent amplifier and speakers to fit the budget and possibly be added to as desired. The absolute last priority should be a subwoofer, in my opine. Usually, they are just woofers to try compensating for poor drivers in the main speakers anyway. Likewise, it's usually preferable to forego surround speakers in favour of better mains. Which is another failing of PC kits as surround tends to be a gimicky check box item that drags down the quality of the most important components (again: amp and mains). Good HT receivers can be had very cheaply and speakers run the gamut but can always be replaced. Heck, even the drivers in the same enclosures can be easily upgraded on the cheap.
