Hello. I'm running Windows XP on a clean system. For some reason at random times, the PC speaker of my computer will beep once, and my mouse will come to a halt, but then a few seconds later, the mouse will come back to life and everything will be fine.

But then, in some instances, after the PC speaker beeps, the mouse will come to a halt, and a few seconds later the keyboard will as well. It renders my computer inoperable, but Windows isn't really frozen because things are still happening on my computer (like people signing on and off on AIM, etc).

What is causing this? Please guide me in solving this problem.

I'm running an AMD Athlon XP system. Nothing is overclocked.

I have a inkling that this might be a heat related issue.

Thank you.

Heat would my first thing to look at as well as checking the bios and see what temps are being recorded by your system, but usually heat issues tend to lock up the pc.
Check and make sure your fans are moving freely
When did this issue start ?
Anything you have changed to the system that may have caused this such as hardware/software changes ?
As Rob suggests run a memory test on your ram.
