Hey there fellas, I just had a quick question for y'all. Which sound dampening product is the best bang for buck, at least for the computer area of things (no car, home, etc...)? I can get a kit of Paxmate for 12.99 from SVC.com, while Dynamat and Magic Fleece cost 40 and 50 respectively but were recommended by Maximum PC. Is it worth it to spend the extra 30-40 bucks and get Dyna or Magic Fleece, or will Paxmate provide the same level of dampening when combined with Vantec Noise Killer fan gaskets/screws and a baybus for 12v/7v switching?

Any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, the case I'm putting this in has a big window on the side, so all that will be is the excess around it trimmed off from one of the mats. I can reuse the excess elsewhere in the case.

Pics of case in point ;)

I lined mine with cork and short carpet, dirt cheap but not the prettiest setup. I don't look inside my case anyway. It worked pretty well.

I have 2 panaflos in and 2 out so it stays pretty cool inside. I kept the carpet away from hot areas like my PSU and it's been going strong for over a year without being turned off.

I think the total cost was around $15 and an hour or so of time.

I think I bought some spire from SVC awhile back for $8.99, I stuck it on my case and for a second I think my PC was quieter, but in reality it made such a small difference that I doubt you would really notice it unless you were sitting completely still trying to find a difference...but if I ever got a new case, for $8.99 I don't think you can go wrong to add it on top of the other sound reducing things you want to do.

On another note, I did not notice a heat increase due to the mat, but my case is one of those big Chieftec dragon cases and I have 4 fans, although only 2 of them are usually on and run at 1500 rpm.

Check out Acoustimat, my case came with it, it's main purpose is killing all vibration, since it has a couple millimeters of rubber w/ acoustic padding on top of it. It doubles the weight of your side panels and really deadens your case.

It's way pricier than any alternatives though.

Thanks for THAT article, I don't think I'll spend the 13 bucks considering I have a Baybus for all the fans anyway, and am getting the noise killer vibration gaskets and fan sleeves anyway. Thanks man!

On the other hand, does anybody know where I can get some clear 80mm fan filters? I want to install them on the 80mm fans on my window but don't want to hide or interfere with the pretty grills. Wouldn't help to filter dust ya know too! I looked at THESE but for 5 bucks x the 4 fans I have, I highly doubt it would be worth it. Do adding filters to all your fans make a big difference? Thanks for the input guys!

Where can I find some specs, sizes, and pricing?

Ok, I found a VERY CHEAP dampening solution, it's the cheapest air conditioning filter Home Depot carries, I made a thread about it once, let me see if I can find it
