PC Slowdown when using keyboard.

Hi,

I'm having a very annoying problem. Whenever I use the keyboard in any way my PC seems to slowdown as if its stuck in treacle. The main area I noticed it is sound, for example right now I have winamp on and as I am typing this its as its going in a kind of slow motion. When I stop typing it goes back to normal. Its happening when I play games aswell that use the keyboard and it makes them hard to play....however if I am using a gamepad there are no problems, I've been playing Toca Race Driver 2 for the past 2 days and had no such slowdown, but today I tested it and pressed keys during a race and the slowdown started.

My Specs are Windows XP Pro, XP2800+ Barton (running at 45 idle, no higher than 55 load), 1Gig of DDR333, an 80Gb Maxtor HDD, an Audio Extreme 5.1 Sound card (from dabs value), a Microsoft Internet Keyboard, Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 and an FX5700 Ultra 128Mb w/ 56.72 drivers.

If it makes any difference I have 3 IDE Devices, the HDD and the DVD Drive (Creative 12x) are on IDE 1 Primary and Secondary Respectively and the CD-RW (LG 52x32x52) is on the secondary by itself.

Other devices I have connected are a Cannon i250 and my camera cable through a 4 port USB 1.1 Hub, along with a Saitek P2500, a Logitech Cordless Freedom (2.4GHz) Joystick and the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 - all 3 of which are directly into the motherboard through USB 2.0 ports.

I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

EDIT: btw things I have tried are:

Disconnecting the Pad and reinstalling it
Disconnecting the USB Hub
Removing the keyboard in device manager and restarting

Whoa im reallt touched by all the help 😀

Anyway just incase anyone else has this problem I reinstalled my video drivers and that sorted it (weird)

I assume this is a usb keyboard, right? Did you try a PS/2 one? In addtion, have you tried your computer with just the keyboard plugged in as the only USB device without the hub?

First step: remove the keyboard entirely and try a different one. It's quite possible the board itself is busted, and this will eliminate it as a problem.
Second step: if you get slowdown with another board, check to make sure no keylogging apps are running in the background. You may be inadvertantly handing off your keystrokes to a trojan, which would slow things down.
Third step: if all else fails, remove the keyboard entry from Device Manager and refresh. It's not like the keyboard driver is complex, but reinstalling it (even the Microsoft driver) should eliminate that as a problem.

Er...thanks, but:
