PC shuts down during post

Hello,

I built yesterday a PC with the characteristics viewed in my sugnature. However when I connect only the M/B, the PSU and the CPU and the memory, the PC shuts down after 5 secs or when I am trying to enter BIOS menu. I have nothing else installed on the M/B.

If I disconnect the 12V connector of the M/B, the PSU never shuts down, but of course the CPU is not working.

Does it post? how many, if any beeps are you getting?

Are you sure the CPU is seated correctly? Have you tried taking the CPU and RAM out and reseating them? Also, if all else fails... take the battery out for about five minutes, put it back and see what happens. It probably won't make a difference, but it helped me once.

Most likely a shutdown issue. Have you tried not shutting down?

No it does not post.
It tries to post but after 5 secs it goes off automatically. During this time everything seems normal (CPU auto-detecetd, Memory check OK).
I have reseated the CPU and RAM with no success.
I have taken the CMOS battery off for a half an hour, but made no difference.

If it does not post, then it is a motherboard issue. If it is new... don't drive yourself crazy with it... just RMA it!

If you have 2x512MB ram, try to remove one dimm, and then se if you can boot, if you can, then go into bios, and set the FSB to 201, or at least 1 above normal, save at then shut down your pc, and install the other dimm again, I know some MB have had this problem before (Asus for one)

Bureso, the M/b never posts and I cannot enter the BIOS setup, because it stays on only for 5 secs. I removed the 1 DIMM, with no success.

Chipix... send it back. Don't drive yourself crazy with it. Gigabyte is wonderful about RMA.. you can call them, give them the serial number and get a RMA number... no questions asked. and their turnaround time is really great, too.

I will go tomorrow to the store I bought the parts in order to check which is the defective one.

The problem was the CPU fan. It was defective and it was impossible to seat it on the CPU correctly.
I put a new CPU fan and all were OK.
