PC shut down need differential diagnosis?

Hi all
I built my pc few years ago, i5-3570k / ASUS P8Z77-V / Corsair 4x8G 1600hz / msi 950 / XFX Pro 550w

Today, while I was watching video online, my pc just shut itself down, and I can not turn it back on. The power light on the motherboard is off, the whole thing seems have no power, so I am guessing the PSU is off. I did not overclock anything, but I did shipped everything from the UK to China, and just arrived few days ago, it was fine until now.

Before I buy anything to repair it, can any one give me any differential diagnosis?

thank you

Yours

Are you using a China to UK plug adapter. It may be of poor quality, and NOT making a good enough connection, hence you losing power. It is a good idea to make sure you really are getting power to the plug, and it is making a good connection to the computer.

It might be worth checking all internal power connections, are still good. Possibly unplugging them, and re-plugging them, in case they got dislodged, because of knocks/bangs during the long journey.

Has the graphics card, worked itself loose or something (ram etc) ?

Failing all the above, the power supply or a short somewhere, is the most likely explanation.

Thanks for your help. It turns out the power supply cable head is half broken, I swapped it with my ps3 power cable, it works fine now, all I need is to get a replacement.

Thank you for reminding me to replug everything 😀

You're Welcome!

It fairly often is something simple, just like you found.

Glad you sorted it out, and rather quickly as well.
