PC seems to overheat

Okay, my PC seems to be overheating and I don?t know why. Here are my specs:
AMD 3800 X2
BFG 7900 GTX
2 GIGS Ram
Anyway, when I am playing a game(doesn?t happen all the time, just sometimes), my PC will just shut off, after awhile, like 2-3 hours. When I try to turn it back on, it powers on but then I hear 4 or 5 peeps and it shuts down again. If I wait 5 minutes or so, it powers back on fine. So, whats the deal here? Why is my PC overheating and what can I do to make it cooler? Oh, and NOTHING is overclocked. Thanks.

You probably have a defective hardware part.

Start by making sure the HSF on the CPU is seated properly.

Then run memtest86.

Return with your results.

None of those parts you listed should be over heating. unless you are overclocking like mad. that setup should run any game out there just fine.
My guess is you hard drive is over heating. happend to a friend of mine. Download Speedfan and watch the temps. Or the NV Monitor from nvidia, that way you can have a chart that shows where your temps go during game play.
