PC refuses to cold-start..

Very weird, i know!
If my pc has been off for a while (say all night) and when i switch it on in the morning, i have no display, no beep, no POST nothing. Fans spin up, HDs power on...but no beep! After leaving the machine like this for say 5 minutes, and then powering off and then on again, the machine boots as if nothing ever was wrong with it!
What could be the problem? Im thinking it could be my board...any suggesions?

Yep thats a strange one....I have a computer at home of someone elses im trying to diagnose of this issue also. I had already replaced the power supply in it, for it was bad. So now im guessing the motherboard is shot on this one. It was getting longer and longer for it to "warm up" even with a new power supply so ive got a mobo on order.
 
could also be a PSU. one time, i had a completely dead psu. i left it plugged in and on for an hour, and then tryed to start it up, and it was fine. try taking out the bios battery for about 30 seconds and replacing it. then update the bios.
 
The one time I had this problem was on an abit be6-ii motherboard. It had turned out that the slocket wasn't seated all the way down, but was close enough that after a slight warm up things started up and ran fine. That was a real b|tch to track down.

Check the connections on everything. It could be a lot of other things of course, thats just one idea.
 
try to remove crap like ram and video card


and see if it beeps at you while trying to post.

and then try one by one and if it changes, you will have the culprit.

I got the new motherboard in....it works now.
 
This could be a bad capacitor in the mobo. But you can try a different PSU first and then also try Zaitsevs recommendation.
 
Oh man i had cold boot problems with my old dfi xp mobile rig. I could never figure out what the heck was wrong with it. But it was not a big problem because i never turn it off anyways,
