PC reboots with dual-channel RAM

These just arrived from Monarch:

Patriot 2x1GB PC3200

I slapped them in (gently, of course) and fired up the PC. The BIOS recognized the new amount, the timings, etc. However, the PC rebooted as soon as XP was about to load.

I tested each stick individually, and both worked fine (PC would boot without issue). I then put the sticks in single channel (slot 1, slot 3) and it booted fine, and is running that way now without issue.

My question is what would cause my PC to not boot with 2GB in dual channel? I had 2x512MB in dual channel before without issue, but these new sticks are giving me a few issues.

I did a search, but didn't see much that related exactly to my problem.

Thanks!

Oh, here are my PC specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra
Sapphire X850XT ATI Radeon
Hitachi Deskstar Serial ATA II 160
XP Pro SP2

not sure but I think I heard somewhere going to dual channel with 2 gig might require T2 instead of T1 usable in single channel or 1 gig dual.
