Question PC randomly reboots while gaming, but not during stress test.

Hi.
Not sure which category this fits in, so I just chose the most popular one.
I built my PC eight a year ago and have been experiencing this problem ever since. After a while in game, sudden black screen appears, and reboots into windows afterwards. The only clues I’ve found are a critical error (41 - Kernel-Power) in the Event Viewer and a critical hardware error (193 - LiveKernelEvent) in the Reliability History.

Here are my specs:
MB: MSI PRO B650-s wifi
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
RAM: Corsair 32GB KIT DDR5 5600MT/s CL40 Vengeance RGB Grey EXPO
Cooler: Endorfy Fera 5
Storage: Apacer AS2280Q4X 2TB
PSU: GIGABYTE P750GM

Just a few additions:
PC has been to 2 different repair shops, both times returned with no reboots happening.
I have already replaced PSU. I measured a peak CPU temperature of 96°C, but before the reboot, temps are usually around 85°C, so it doesn’t seem like an overheating issue.

I would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Did you or either shop update the nvidia video driver?

I get the general feeling on the Internet that nvidia drivers have gone to pot lately, I don't have any personal experience of this but it may be worth digging further into, to find out if there's any relation to what you're experiencing.

Strongly point to a power delivery or hardware stability issue, not just temperatures. If you googling it with the keyword "MSI PRO B650-s wifi bugs", you'll get some bad notes there regarding power. My first suggestion, upgrade your BIOS to the latest.

For the last year, I am updating drivers constantly. So I have treid several drivers, always with the same outcome.

I have updated the bios multiple times over the year. Didn't change anything

The first version of your model PSU was notorious for exploding, you might want to check your PSU serial number:
GP-P750GM
Affected S/N# Range: 20243G001301 - 20453G025430

The issue you're talking about reminds me of my faulty 750Ti, which never screwed up during testing, only gaming and no consistent cause for symptoms (BSODs, sudden reboot, graphics corruptions). I ended up replacing it.

I have already replaced a psu. Therefore I find this very unlikely to be the cause.

I wonder what the effect would be if you disable these 2 things (if enabled):
1. EXPO (run RAM at JEDEC default 4800MT/s) and test.
2. If you've tweaked Curve Optimizer or enabled PBO(Precision Boost Overdrive), disable it for now. See if stability returns.

I turned all of them off. Didn't change anything.

Power crash in gaming, but not stress test.
The stress test is probably not using the additional hardware for RTX and DLSS?
You would need to test another GPU to know for certain.

I've had GPUs that would run Furmark fine and crash in games before, even without things like RTX. If you can borrow another similar GPU to test with, that would be ideal.

You can also submit a minidump or full dump to MS, they can often help provide more information on how to track down the error.

I unfortunately cannot really burrow any gpu. No minidump files are created after the reboot.

I advise you to repaste and reseat the CPU cooler. No way that Fera 5 should be letting a 7600X hit 96c if it's properly mounted, has good paste, and the fan is working. Unless you are in a swelteringly hot room. Or the fan curve is set to not ramp up high enough.

I have a monitor that has a bad display port. For the longest time, I swapped out different cables for varying results, sometimes random artifacts, videos freezing, couple crashes. Didn't think about trying the other port. Guess what. No more issues.

Happened with both nVidia and AMD cards.

You would be surprised how bad cables / ports will trip up a computer.

I tried different cables, without any changes.
