My friend (at another forum) is having this prolbem with his Computer. Its a Asus A7N8X Deluxe Board refurb from Newegg with a Athlon 2500+
Heres his message:
Well...hooked up all the stuff to the new power supply. It won't even POST. It's like nothing is even getting power. The PSU seems to be making this high-pitched whine while it is on, but the fans don't turn. I left it on to see if it would turn on, but no luck. I double-checked to see if I installed the Power On and Reset switches right(they are two blocks together...I couldn't tell which one was the ground and which one led to the switch, but I tried in both positions...still no dice)...Any advice? Is my MoBo just fried? I NEED HELP BEFORE I HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN!

I've had a lot of experience with ATX power supplies emitting an annoying high-pitched noise when in stand-by mode (only sending a 5v signal to the motherboard). Not sure if that's what it is, but if it is it sounds like the mobo just isn't realizing the power button is being pressed. If your friend has another case lying around he could try getting it to turn on with that, if it doesn't, then it's a problem with the motherboard. NewEgg is usually pretty good with refurbishing products, but DOAs do happen.
