PC Problems

My families 4 year old Dell Dimension has had some tough times lately, and now the PC powers up, but we aren't getting any video signal, the monitor vga cable is plugged in, so it's not that. Is the video card dead then? I'm not even sure if it's a card or integrated graphics, I'll have to open it up after work.

Monitor is brand new too, no problems there.

Disconnect all PCI expansion cards, IDE devices, and keep only one stick of RAM in the system. Reset the CMOS and see what happens. If you are still not getting any video, try another power supply and video card. I'm working on a family member's computer right now that has the exact same problem and even though the fans in the system come on, the power supply was defective. Good luck!

The problem may be related with a lot of things.

First of all, what sound from computer do you hear on the startup? In normal situation it has to be one short beep. If you hear smth else, google beeps for your specific motherboard and find out what works wrong. Also, keyboard has to blink once by all three indicators. If all goes normally, the problem is in monitor or cables.
