I like silence, and PC P&C has sold good (if expensive) PSUs for over a decade so I'd probably go with them.

from everything i have been reading there seems to be a few reliablility issues with Tagan so I would steer clear of them and go for what I know is good.

Tagan is a subsidiary of a brand the people don't like, so it's sorta like "the one sub-brand that excels". Whereas PC Power and Cooling is known to be one of the top PSU makers, if not the top PSU maker. So I'd go with the first.

pcp&c's are not quiet. The nidec fan pushes 50dba's and many cfm's for that matter. This is why their mtbf is tested @ 50C (commercial pc thermal standards). They are however in my opinion the best PSU's on the market. I just replaced that Nidec with a 14dba SilenX 80mm and its unheard by my ears.

I think I've heard that the Silencers are rebadged Seasonics.
Unless of course they are both Fortrons :).

I thought PCP&C used Fortron components in their PSUs... maybe that's only the TurboCool line. Regardless, Seasonic is great too.

I have read this as well, but as to the truth of it- I would like to know. I have also read that the turbo-cool line is manufactured by themselves. I would like to know this as well lol. Either way they are as "solid" as they come. I have yet to use a more stable (as far as load reg) PSU, but I have yet to use a OCZ (topower).

I say PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool 510

Add a poll to the top of the page.

Here are the steps if you dont know how.

1] click edit
2] at the bottom click add poll
3] then it will have an area to input a question, just type- PC Power & Cooling vs. Tagan
4] then choose the area that has a box with an X on it under the answers colum
5] add the answer titled- Pc Power and Cooling
6] repeat the last step and type the word-TAGAN
now exit the poll setup and you are ready to roll.

I have heard that their current turbo-cool line is made by zippy. Their turbo-cool power supplies are about as good as you can get.

You can often tell who actually makes a PSU by looking up the UL file number at http://www.ul.com . The file number is usually found just below the RU symbol (e.g. E123456). That's why I recommend the Silverstone PSUs (made by Enhance).
. But large OEMs like PCP&C can have their units registered under their own name. At that point you'd have to inspect the circuit board to find out who made it.

Tagan = Eww!
PCP&C = Much Dinero!
Antec/Fortron/Thermaltake = better combination of price/performance.

This discussion is about PC Power & Cooling vs. Tagan not antec and thermaltake.

If only I could effectively use the UL lookup...

Is it a crime for him to simply offer other options? :disgust:

No, but that is not the question at hand. I am sure he knows about them, but is not interested. That is why he has asked the question he has asked. So lets keep to the subject or go start a new thread of your own. I don't think price is in the question, so while you might as well make some other suggestions that are not a part of what he is asking; like what kind of ram or cpu and motherboard to use, go ahead and tell him what is the best case too...

I like my 425 deluxe but it is not Quite . Not as bad as my Turbo Cool 300 was but it runs everything in my system and I have a ultra video card whivch needs two power feads alone. Yes I could use a 500 plus but I have no reboots at all and I have a overclocked 2500 mobile with a vcore of 1.70 and a power hungry MB with a power hungry video card so the 425 will hold it's own.
