Hey all,

When I was younger, living at home, my mom discovered this WONDERFUL citrus fruit... The BEST, if you ask me. It was called UGLI fruit. --And it was. VERY ugly. Green skin, very wrinkly and loose. It was so loose, you could push your finger right through it, and not touch the fruit on the inside. The actual wedges of the fruit are suspended by little stringies from the loose rind. VERY ugly fruit, and its name, like I said was UGLI fruit. It was even in the dictionary. Well, at some point, they changed the name to "UNIQ" fruit. W T F ? COME ON! UNIQ? Did the fruit have its FEELINGS HURT by being called UGLI? DAMN! WHAT BLEEDING HEART ACTIVIST FREAK decided it was too harsh to call it UGLI? Man, this world is going insane.

Here's a pic....and it looks like this company still calls it "ugli". But not the ones I can get here.

Damn, don't you have ANY consideration for what that poor piece of fruit is feeling when you call it "ugly"?? How insensitive are you??

that dosent necessarily mean that its name was changed due to political correctness. Perhaps just wanted to change the name.

<< UGLI® is the registered trade mark under which Cabel Hall Citrus Ltd. markets its brand of tangelos grown in Jamaica >>

Somehow I doubt this has anything to do with political correctness. Most likely it is a trade mark issue, and the reason you can't find any ugli fruit where you live is that your supermarket uses a different fruit supplier. You might want to read the source you link to before you jump to conclusions.
