I have an Athlon X2 desktop (Windows XP x64) and a Powerbook G4 laptop (Mac OS 10.4.8). Being a student in acoustical engineering, it helps to have access to both platforms, because of the variety of Windows-only software (e.g. EASE) and MacOS-only software (e.g. Digital Performer) that I need to use. These days a Macbook Pro would be the optimal solution, but when I started a year and a half ago, the Intel-based Macs weren't out. 🙁

My computer boots 4 superior operating systems to Max OS X:

Solaris 10
Ubuntu 6.06
Windows Vista RC1
Windows XP Pro

That's only your opinion. OS X is clearly superior to Solaris and Ubuntu for audio and MIDI recording and photo editing purposes; when compared with Windows for those tasks, it's more a matter of preference.

I find PC's superior in the aspect of hardware choice. I have heard its nearly impossible to build your own Mac and have the OS install correctly. I also hear that it takes very specific parts to upgrade.

Of course the only Mac I have had real experience with was a 3 year old one in my photo class, in which I really couldnt find anything that would set them apart. Whats funny is that they got rid of the Macs because they were having trouble networking them all together.

 oh yea? well that's your opinion man!

good comeback

I use XP the vast majority of the time anyway, the other three are mostly for novelty purposes....and yea of course it all depends on how you define a "good" operating system. Stability? Obviously Solaris takes the cake. I really like Vista, once the real version comes out it will likely become my primary OS.

apple is a hardware company. buying into apple *is* your hardware choice. Software is a side job. Granted, I do prefer OSX over windows.

I think Mac would probably suit most people better in college and stuff but I (and most people) stick with PC because we are just so used to it. And I expect to use a PC once I get to college.

Both will work fine.

I'd say PC just because you can get more bang for the buck that way and generally, PC's make better gaming machines.
