PC only powering on 3rd or 4th try (usually randomly)

It has to be either the motherboard or the processor. I recently replaced the PSU because that was the most obvious thing. What do you think the culprit is?

have you tried powering on by shorting the power switch pins on the motherboard, could be a problematic power button in the case

No I haven't but I don't think its the power button. You see I hear the CPU fan wind up but the HD does not come on and there is no signal being sent to the monitor. I have to turn it on and off several times to come on.

I am having a similar problem now with one of my rigs. Mine will turn on, load into windows (takes 5 minutes though), and then reboot right after you login. It didn't really bother me as I never shut it down so didn't have to deal with it, but now it is rebooting randomly. I swapped PSU also and it kept happening. Turns out the HDD the OS is installed on is going bad. SMART eventually told me failure was immenent(sp?).

I'd say maybe you HDD itself is bad... but then again that shouldn't stop video from working...

I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with the hard drive because video does not come on. I'm thinking either the processor has gone bad or the motherboard is going bad. I have experienced this in the past and am pretty sure it is the processor. I have two removable hard drives (one of which is brand new) and they are both experiencing this issue. Any suggestions are welcome!
