PC on LCD TV Question

I picked up an open box Sharp Aquos 20 LCD at Circuit City to use as a TV/Computer Monitor for my sons room. It works great at 1024x768, but some of his educational games change the resolution to 640x480 and we get a "this signal is not compatible" message on the monitor.

Is there a way to force these games stay at the 1024x768 resolution? or just open in a smaller 640x480 window? It kind of defeats the purpose if he can't play those games.

Thanks for your help!
Lyn

You should contact Sharp support.
The Crutchfield site says...
"Details:
» 4:3 screen aspect ratio
» 640 x 480 pixels
» EDTV picture resolution (accepts signals up to 480p; displays all signals at 480p)"

Looks like they may be running at 800x600. . . . monitor won't support that resolution.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Lyn

I may have answered my own question. . . maybe. . .I just right clicked on one of the icons on my desktop. . . Then clicked on the Compatiblilty tab. . . There is a check box that says "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution".

I'm gonna run home at lunch and give this a try on his computer. I'll let you know if it works.

I'm still open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Lyn

I have run programs like Age of Empires using the Windows XP compatibility mode. I think that game is acutally incompatible with XP because it is 16 bit. You may have to play with it.
