PC not detecting my Zip at boot...

One of my systems is running a Soyo SY-7VBA133 motherboard with a single HD on IDE0 and a CD-ROM (master) at IDE1 and a Zip 100 drive (slave) on the same IDE channel.

I have the BIOS set to automatically detect the drives, but when I boot for the first time (cold) the motherabord wont detect neither of the drives on IDE1 (the CD-ROM and the ZIP drive) and they wont show up in "My Computer". If I restart the machine, they are detected normally and everything works ok.

I've tried changing the IDE cable (no success) and double-check if the Master/Salve setting was correct (it is) so what can be the problem?

If I enter the BIOS setup (from a cold boot) and quit (POST again) the units are detected...

I'm using the latest VIA 4in1's, but I guess that doesn't matter, since the problem is in the BIOS (?)

I'm 100% sure the drives work. I had the Zip in my machine and had no problems whatsoever. The CD-ROM also works.

I have a similar problem, my Abit BH6 won't detect the zip 100 (slave to my dvd-rom drive) on IDE0, on cold boot... seems winXP still detect it though.... but on reboot it works fine.... dunno whats the deal... started when I added the dvd drive to my system... anyway... as long as it works most of the time I'm not complaining.... could be because the mobo is 5 yrs old... hmmm

Ok, I've solved the problem. It seems there's some sort of compatibility issue between my Zip drive and the motherboard.
I tried setting the Zip drive as the Master and the CD-ROm as the Slave, but the same thing happened. So I put the CD-ROM as a Slave to the HD (on IDE0), leaving the Zip drive as a single Master on IDE1. It's working fine now.

I don't kwnow what I'll do when I add a second HD or a CD-R to that box...
