PC not booting into windows, continuous loop to boot menu

I bought a ASUS M2N-E board, Athlon64 3800+(AM2) and 4 sticks of Kingston 667 Value RAM (KVR667D2N5K2). RAM passes MEMTest on the system singly and in pairs but I seem to be unable to either install Windows XP or boot the current windows installation.

When attempting to install windows I get differing errors from files not found to the typical krnl errors that would suggest RAM problems.. have tried three seperate Windows CDs now so its not due to a scratched or something CD.

When attempting to boot into the existing OS, the machine flashes the windows logo then reboots and leaves me at the boot menu. Safe mode options get just past mup.sys then hang for a while and reboot back to boot menu.

I have also attempted to switch PSUs and board to an ASRock and get the exact same result..

Is this indicative of a bad CPU or am I just missing something ?

Any insigt would be helpful 🙂

Thanks for the welcome, been reading posts here for a while but havent had much to input hehe

Specs on the machine are as follows

ASUS M2N-E
Athlon 64 3800+ socket AM2
4 x 512MB Kingston Value RAM 667DDRII (KVR6667D2N5K2)
ASUS GF7600GT
Maxtor DiamondMax10 160GB SATA
ChillInnovation 450W PSU

The rest I'll throw in once thats up and running lol

I chose the Value RAM simply because I need a cheap working machine and that particular RAM is on the QVR list on both ASUS and Kingstons site, as well as being 1.8v DDR2 since the board only supports a max of 1.95 to DRAM.

This is a new build except for the drive which has had no problems at all and runs fine on my current (ie old) machine.

Board has been flashed with the latest BIOS version from ASUS as well.

As I stated in the earlier post, I have tried switching boards and PSU but got the exact same results and errors as before, even if memtest is lying then I still refuse to believe that all four of my sticks would be bad, which is why I'm beginning to suspect the CPU.

However, I know little about memory timings, so I have only attempted the common settings that others have posted as fixes to AM2 board RAM problems..

Played a bit with memory timings and ended up with 5-5-5-12-1 at 533MHz
Now when I attempt to install Windows I get the following error everytime

ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded
The error code is 7

This happens with no drive installed and with the maxtor mentioned above, I have attempted to hit F7 when loading SCSI/RAID drivers to bypass APIC but in this case the machine just reboots when winsetup reaches "Loading windows executable"

When attempting to boot a disk with an existing windows installation I get the same results as mentioned in the previous post..

Any insight into this issue would be appreciated 🙂
