PC/NAS for $200 or less

Okay, recently bought a Slim Devices Squeezebox 3. I want to not have to have my computer on in my room while playing my music. I intend to move all my network peripherals downstairs and buy a wireless card for my current computer in my room. However, I will also be needing either a NAS or a very low end, stable, but cheap computer to be on 24/7.

Please include suggested specs and ~prices.

For a NAS I will be needing to hack the linux on it to run SLIMSERVER. I'm not too good at hacking but if there is a step by step guide, I'm willing to put the money down to hack a NAS.

On the other option, buying a computer, I'm willing to do that as well but I need to have three things if I do buy one. RAID to ensure security, pretty large storage (250+gb), and also reliability. I'm most likely going to run Linux so a suggested linux distributor would also be helpful.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: When I mean buying a computer, I mean I'm willing to BUILD one.

Infrant NAS has a slimserver plugin and will do what you want, but it is way beyond your $200 budget (you'd be looking at $500'ish for an NV w/o drives from newegg).

Frankly I don't understand how you expect to get a NAS for $200 or less since you will need to spend more than $200 on the (at least) 2 hard disks to stick in it (whether you buy them yourself or they come with the unit, either way you are paying for them).

You can read a review of the infrant right on AnandTech:

There is also a roundup article that compares several NAS products:
