PC music volume too quiet

Is this normal?

Basically if I play a DVD, or Sky TV (I'm in the UK) through my Aego system then that's great.

If I plug in a computer using a 3.5mm jack to 2 phono stereo adaptor and phono leads into the Aego, then the volume, compared to a DVD or Satellite TV is very quiet. I can crank the computer volume up to 100% and the Aego volume right up, so it's passable, but I don't want to do that.

I can make the music (typically ripped in WMP or Winamp) louder using a conversion tool which makes things slightly better.

Would most onboard sound solutions suffer in this way? I am using a mini-itx based computer so low spec - it says 6 channel Realtek ALC655 audio - more on that here

What other options do I have to boost the audio volume from the PC? It has got 1x RCA Composite Video Out, also firewire and USB. I'd like to put L*nux on it at some point, thought I'd better mention that

Thanks
Martin

i'm assuming you're using the RCA input, but not labeled "phono". is the volume on the player set low? i usually set software player volume to max, then bring up system volume to match (ish) other sources.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using something very similar to one of these 2 phono to 3.5mm adaptor and the 3.5mm is going into the PC and then the 2 phono leads go into the Aego. The RCA on the PC is marked "video" so I couldn't use that, or could I?

All software volume settings are maxed out on the PC.

the RCA is yellow? that's picture only.

windows audio controls > 2.1 speakers? maybe there's an option for input to a reciever?

try plugging into a different input on the Aego. if it's the same, the issue is 99% definately in the PC sound settings.
