I haven't bought any sports games at all in quite some time and I think I need to... the last one I got was NHL 2004 I think... can't even remember, so it's been a while. I've NEVER played any of the Madden series, but I saw it being played on an Xbox in best buy and I was thinking of snagging it for a new game to play. Any idea how the PC version compares to the console version, and would a complete madden noob have any hope of being able to compete? Are there any other Madden Noobs out there or am I just going to get pwned by 12 year olds (and probably even the CPU?)

Just curious if I should go for it or not touch it...

it runs the same, if not better than the console versions (well, depending on the specs on your pc). You might want to get a controller since i find it almost impossible to play with mouse and keyboard. As far as being a "noob," just keep on playing. Start out in "Rookie" difficulty and work your way up.

Madden on the PC is basically the exact same as on the consoles. Graphics are a lot better if you have the hardware, though (which the PC version is based off the consoles, so not much hardware power is really needed to run it top-of-the-line). There are a few slight differences, but seeing as to how you've never played any of the Madden series, you wouldn't know or care even if I told you what they were. As for controllers, if you need to purchase one, I would suggest the Logitech line. I personally have the Wireless Rumblepad 2, and it is fantastic. Logitech also offers a low-line, $20 Dual Action Pad (cheaper probably if you buy it online), which should suffice greatly.

As for getting owned by 12 year olds, it will most likely happen. It does for me, anyhow. Be warned that

Football games keep getting progressively more complicated every year. This probably appeals to those that have mastered the game, and to make it more accessible would probably piss off the die-hard madden lovers. But for a novice, I haven't found them really very enjoyable in quite a while. They just take way too much time investment in order to be proficient at them. Just too many plays, options, moves, etc to be able to pick up without spending a lot of time with it. So if you think its just a game you can casually pick up and have fun with right off the bat, it won't really happen. You have to put a lot of hours into it before you can become competitive.

This is pretty much what I was thinking of when I posted. I remember trying a madden Demo years back (i can't remember which version of Madden it was but it was quite a while back) and it was damn hard to play. The computer was owning me every play, I didn't know what defenses to run, which plays would work or how to run the plays properly... of course I was only playing the demo so I didn't have any kind of manual or anything. I'm still thinking of buying this though... as games today go (IMHO getting to be too expensive) , it's not too costly... I have a controller, but may go buy a better one depending on how it goes, and I have a couple of best buy cards so I don't need to shell out any actual cash anyway.. lol. I'm just hoping that the game won't be so overly complex that it is not possible to figure out the plays, defenses, etc.

I usually play sports games on a console system, but have recently upgraded my computer so I bought the MVP Baseball 2005 and the 2004 EA Sports collection pack(Madden, NHL, NBA, Tiger and NASCAR).

I noyiced that in Madden the game keeps going back to a keyboard setup and not staying with the gamepad setting. I know I must be missing something, but how do you make the gamepad the default controller?
