PC Keeps frying hardware

Hi,
I have a problem, my pc has so far fried two external harddrives and one memory stick. I just bought an external harddrive today, connected it, and it worked for 10 min before breaking. It doesnt work anymore, so I assume it has fried. WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS? Is there any protetction i can buy, or perhaps some drivers I need to download? Because apparently my PC doesnt seem to know how much power it should give the harddrive / memory stick...
Please help!
Thank you,
Alex

Full system specs please.

If your using an Antec True/SmartPower that is over three years old, open it up and find
leaking, bulging, blown Fujyyu capacitors. I would bet even money 5V spikes are killing hardware.

yes 🙁 I am in fact using Antec Smart Power.. i shall check if the capacitors are broken. How could I have screwed up the wiring? how do i fix it?

Your PSU is probably the culprit. I suggest you replace it. (And make Antec pay for your broken hardware).

Hey guys, this is my psu...
i cant tell what the white stuff is, is it leaky transistors or just normal heatsink?
can anyone tell from these pics if i need a new psu?
thanks,
alex

That white stuff is silicone adhesive. Most all PSUs have it applied during assembly.
Do not worry about it.

Carefully pull up the wire in the second pic and look for this http://www.badcaps.net/ident/
Now do a little reading in thier PSU forum. It might be on page two of said forum that you will
find a thread dedicated to Antec units.
