PC systems are the superior choice for gamers still deciding whether to purchase the recently released PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, Nvidia's Matt Wright told MCV in the wake of the company's release of a series of smaller livingroom-friendly PCs.

"We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles," said Wright, describing Nvidia's push to try and remove the complexities of PC technology that can scare away casual gamers. "Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC.

Imagine the NVidia marketing person standing and waving his arms in the stores in Europe as huge crowds of people rushed to buy the new game consoles....."Wait, the CPUs, motherboards and our GPUs are in the other direction....Aaaargh!!!"

Moved from CPUs to PC Gaming

Small form factor PCs on their own are not a viable alternative to consoles, and never will be. The console has a massive infrastructure behind them, and greatly benefits from "all the same" hardware and to the metal programming.

Now the STEAM box may change that to an extent, but to challenge the consoles in programming efficiency, it's going to have to utilize a thin API like Mantle, otherwise it's just another PC in a box regardless of how the box is shaped. Not to mention consoles are sold at or near cost (or at a loss in the past).

So WTF are you trying to say Nvidia?

Statement doesn't hold a lot of water anymore, seeing as how the PS4 and XBox One at their core are using tweaked PC hardware.

This. So what exactly makes the PC better for gaming? Sure when cost is not an issue, it's definitely better. But for $400-$500, heck no. Or is Nvidia saying they want to sell a lot of GPUs that are in $500 PCs? Wait, they said margins are too thin on such a product.

Sour grapes Nvidia, sometimes it's just better not to say anything.

The PC is a superior platform in every way imaginable. The Steambox is not and I honestly doubt it's going to be very successful at all.

Nvidia butthurt is the best kind of butthurt. I think it's their company policy to only hire megalomaniacs.

Why are nvidia even bothering? Ofcourse PC's are superior. So what? Consoles still have their advantages.

The biggest advantage of the PC is the price of the games. Not even is there a backlog you will never get through but the latest games cost much less than on any console. And with special sales like Black Friday i can buy BF4 for $20 or Batman:AO for $15.

Not really. I bought Bioshock:Infinity for 7,5€ and Bioshock 2 for 5€. The Witcher 1 and 2 for 7€, Mass Effect 2 and 3 for 10€ and Grid 2 for 7,5€ in the last 12h.

Try this with your Xbox One and/or Playstation 4.

It's not the technical side of the pc which makes it the "superior" plattform.

Only because they won no contracts in this round of consoles. I like Nvidia but LOL.

Rent the game for your console.
Try doing that on your PC.

PS+ give you free games each month. They were giving away GRID 2 and Borderlands and a couple of other games. So that defeats that point.

It's not free anymore..so that argument is moot..but anyway...maybe this will give Nvidia incentive to make the next great..whatever.

The big difference this gen is that they came out already way behind what PC's can do. In past gens they were somewhat superior if not really superior to most. Not only that they rushed them out with barely anything worthwhile to back them up, but by god you can watch tv with them! :p
