PC in garage?

Like the title says, I was thinking of putting a spare pc out in my garage as a file server.

The problem is it gets pretty hot outside this time of year. Upper 90's and maybe 100 every now and then. Would it be gaurenteed toast if I did this or is it something I should monitor and test out?

BTW it's a n AMD 2400+ in an antec 1040 case wit four 80mm fans so it has good cooling but not sure if it would be good enough in a garage.

Cooling will probably be OK. CPUs really can handle a lot of heat before they fry as long as you ahve a decent heatsink on them.

The biggest problem will be dust. Especially if you do a lot of work in your garage, or maybe live on a gravel road or near a work site or anything like that. Once your rig fills with dirt, it's got a much better chance of frying.

Also, you'll get insects and stuff in there.

Isn't there anywhere else you could put it? You stated it would be used as a file server which would imply that it will be on all the time. It could work but my guess is that it would be too hot and it would just be a matter of time before bad things start happening with the computer.

Only if you absolutly have to. If you do, open up the side of the case and have a fan (i'm talking around 18") blowing into the case.

Well, currently i have it in a walk in closet in my main pc room. The wife complains about the heat in the room so I have kept it turned off for about a week. The other problem with my pc room is it's a tthe front of the house where the sun beats down on it all day so the room is hot regardless of if the file server is on or not. My main pc stays on all the time too.
So I just wanted somewhere out of the way to put the pc and then I would log into it via remote desktop (like I do now). There's really no where else besides another closet in another room.

I chose to put a PC for a grandkid in a garage like that. I had trouble with the psu getting too hot and shutting itself down, while the cpu was going OK. With a top blow hole and fan, side intake 120 mm high volume fan, and psu with twin fans, it's been doing better out there than a human trying to run it between 4 PM and 8 PM.

That grandchild spends his afternoons after school, and his summer all day long, in a home at which a friend's wife does day care. There are two other, very young and spoiled brat toddlers there who are allowed to get by with almost anything. So the PC is someplace they seldom follow my grandkid into.
