PC Help on a k7n420

Before Anyone Says it I already Posted int he technical support forum, but got no reply

I am Building my Mom a New Box & am Having some issues with the motherboard...

1st off I Loaded XP & Everything worked great except the sound, I Got nothing at all, all drivers were loaded fine & I Tried reloading the shipped drivers...
I Tried updating the drivers from MSI, But that Left Me With BSOD's booting into windows (safemode too)
So I Than Formatted The HDD & Loaded Millenium, Sound still did not work, & Windows would freeze at bootup after installing the LAN drivers..
So I Loaded 98se, Same Results as millenium...
So I Disabled the LAN in the Bios & Threw in another NIC, & To My Suprise Windows Locked at bootup, Removing the NIC allowed it to work fine...
Now I Have reloaded XP & The Lan is working, & THe Drivers For the Sound appear to be fine, But still no sound at all....

So Moral of the Story, I Need To Get the Blasted Sound to work..
Any Help Would be Much Appreciated..

Also. There is No now Bios Updates From MSI Yet...

When I had the MSI K7N420 Pro, I used this unified driver. Be sure to check your jumper and bios settings.

Make sure that all software settings for the soundcard are correct. The volumes, playback qualities, speaker arrangement. Make sure all of that jive is set properly.

I reckon your problem was installing the new drivers on top of the old in XP. Try a fresh install and use the 203's instead of the cd drivers.

Also take a quick look in your BIOS and check these settings. The most important one is the APIC (ACPI) mode which will let you install XP with a "standard PC" setup.

Advanced BIOS Features
APIC Mode disabled

Advanced Chipset Features
DDRAM Auto Precharge (W/R) enabled
CAS Latency Override auto
AGP Bus Driving Value auto
Frame Buffer Size disabled (I have a Geforce2 Pro in the AGP slot)

Integrated Peripherals
BIOS Protect disabled

Power Management Setup
IPCA Function disabled

PnP/PCI COnfigurations
PnP OS yes
Resources Controlled by auto

John THanks for the linky to the new bios....

Gstanfor... Thanks for the Recomendations, However all have Been checked Or Tried where applicable...

OK Verdict is in..... The Motherboard is Bad, & THis is Per MSI Tech Support....

So Now I have to decide weather to get it replaced through newegg, or just throw in a new sound card....
