Last time I checked, M-A-N were the last three letters of woman.

Edit: Maybe they'll change it to wo-person.

<< "We are no longer living in the dark ages when women were excluded from the political process," said state Democratic Chairwoman Judith Hope. "Our official documents should reflect the progress we've made." >>

utterly ridiculous. You have your progress, you know what rights you have, why do you need to screw with American history just to prove it? :|

That is ludicrous. It's one thing to make ammendments to the Constitution and another completely to change the actual wording of the Constitution. Has that woman no shame? Next they'll want to rewrite the Old and New Testaments because "why couldn't Jesus have been a woman?" :|

who cares? this is a non-issue. i'm not what you'd call a pc person but i mean really, who cares if it says mankind or humankind or dogkind. this to me is not even a pc issue.

OK, but you can't just let people do these kinds of things. It's the old "give them an inch and they'll take a foot" catch. If they do this, then what's next? Redoing Mount Rushmore to show Hillary Clinton?

Some people seem to spend FAR too much time looking for things like this. "Let's cause a stir" must be their motto.

Is there a pc version of 'marksman' ? 'marksperson'?

Not that it really matters, but you guys do realize this is the New York constitution and not the US constitution, right?

Five other states -- California, Hawaii, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont -- do have gender-neutral constitutions and Florida is to join the list in January 2003. :Q Wow. I live in hawaii, and I had no Idea our constitution was gender neutral.

You all do realize that this is the NY State Constitution, and not the US Constitution, right?

Whether you agree or not, the "they" in question are the voters.

Hmm, you're right, what difference does it make? Allow them to have their gender neutral wording. It obviously bothers them, why does it bother you?

The statue of David offends me..Shouldn't we clothe all nude statues so as to not pervert our children and society...

Nude statues are the work of the devils and are causing "humankind" to deteriorate to the point of savagery. I shall start an organization to collect money for clothes for these statues. I shall call it www.whereismyfigleaf.org.

It bothers me because they are rewriting the state laws so as to not offend anyone..This offends me, yet do they care??? Umm...no

yes, i have been crusading against this kind of stuff for years now... a few years ago i took an english class where we read a lot of feminist writing. stuff like this was brought up, and i made my opinion known, that i thought it was recockulous and trite. i caught HELL for that... people calling me sexist, a misogynist, asshole, etc. but did i back down? hell no... i had enough balls to speak my mind, unlike some of those other pussies in that class... sorry... just had to rant...

Well, I think there are worse things they could do. I agree that they should just leave it alone because it's a historical document. But adding 'she' is not the end of the world like you cliam. Nor is changing "fireman" to "firefighter" etc.

Calm down. The world isn't crashing down yet.

It bothers me 'cause it's pointless, and a waste of taxpayer's money. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees... Of course, to make NY a better place for women, all we need to do is make the NY constitution gender neutral. Wow. I wish someone woulda figured that out sooner...
