pc has died and I dont know why!!

ok, heres how things went. I left my computer on through out the night, woke up and it was off. I turned it back on and it seemed to be working fine, and then about 30mins later it turns off and now nothing.

so, I get no repsonse at all from the computer when hit the power button. the only response I get is a green light that turns on, on the mobo and is in between the pci slots and the ethernet plug light.

so, I thought it was the ps. buddy of mine had one laying around, so I used it to test out if it was just my ps. ahhh, something happens, the cpu fan spun a little which that never happened with my ps in place.

so, can it be that the ps is shot along with the mobo?? maybe the cpu?? I dont know and am a bit lost.

thanx

I've seen a few power supplies go out. they seem to have a couple of characteristics when they have.
Bad smell and no lights or fans at all.
I would tend to think maybe its your mb.
But it is interesting that you got the fan to turn on for a second.
Are you sure that buddies PS is not bad also and that it is compatible with your system?
Some oem machines use propritary power supplies.

no bad smells here and my buddy actually put to use his spare ps since the one in his pc died. we both have amd machines.

now, if the mobo is shot it shouldnt be sending power anywhere right??

not always I had a bad mb that would intermittently work, it wouldn't boot for a day then would work again...etc
It was on its way out but not all the way there yet🙂
look for any burned connections or bulging caps. Probably won't see any but a careful inspection sometimes reveals something.

I just had my first dead motherboard last week. Just as a point of reference, all the fans and hard drive would spin, not just the little green light on the board. So of course, that was my last thought to think the motherboard was the problem.
