so i got a laptop a few months ago and i've bee using that at college instead of my pc. I turned of my pc so it wouldn't just be running for a while for no reason. i turned it on a week or 2 ago and there is just no picture. ive narrowed it down to my video card which is 2 years od, 7800 gt. i used that little digital to analog converter thing but i used the same one and plugged it into my laptop and works great. i've taken the video card out, cleaned the dust out, cleaned the inside of my computer. what should i do?

hmmm this is the weirdest thing eever. i plugged the speakers in and left my computer on for a while waiting for the windows boot up sound. my computer eventually turned it's self off. it didn't sound too good. then i turned my power off and then back on. now the picture is working. this is very strange and the video card heatsink sonds awful. it's so loud, i've dusted it and everything.

You're going to have to be more specific about what happens when you try
to turn your computer on for anyone to be able to troubleshoot that.

Does your computer beep - or play the logon sound for windows???

Try re-seating your RAM and all cards.

When you say the video card heatsink sounds awful do you mean a grinding noise or what? Is the fan still spinning properly?

like i said before. there are no beeps at all. there was no windows sound but the sound might be muted or it might be low so i don't hear it. yes i meant by the fan noise. the fan spins properly just not smooothe. the computer booted up properly once and everything was working. vid card was running around 38 c but like i said before when i put it to sleep it turned off and then it does the same thing, no picture when i boot it.most of everything is fairly new in that system.

If you had the pc disconnected from power while stored you might want to try replacing the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
