I've got a 80 gig maxtor hard drive that should be compatible with PS2. Though one person said that if i use the hard drive in my PS2 i wouldnt ever be able to use it in a PC again. That sounds like a bunch of a baloney to me. Is it true? I was kinda hoping to use a HD in my PS2, but if it somehow disables it from being able to perform in a PC in the future, then i probably wouldn't do it.

Ok, that's what i suspected.

Is it a pain to transfer PS2 games to the HDD? The Maxtor i'm going to use is being used by another computer right now, but it's pretty much empty. I was thinking it might be easier to put backups of my games on it now rather than wait until it's in m PS2 and have it copy directly from the PS2 discs. What file type do the PS2 games need to be in so they'll show up when i use HDloader? Do they have to be .iso? If so how do i convert my PS2 games to .iso? Do i have to use WinHIIP to put games on the HD or can i just put copy them onto the drive myself? This is pretty confusing. I'm still up for trying it though.

You can just FTP the files over to the disk. Here is link to the step-by-step process of doing this: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/122897
It is worth setting it up this way because it will just be easier to put more games on it in the future. You can also stream games to the system over a LAN connection with some mod-chips.

Edit:Used the wrong word, wrote "disc" instead of "disk"

Using WinHIIP to transfer ISO files is MUCH faster than the FTP method. I'd only use FTP if you need to. Plus, WinHIIP is super-easy to use.

I can't get HDloader to boot. I'm using the fliptop/swap magic 3.6 combo and they won't load up. If i try the DVD version swap magic will telle me "Not a valid PS2 disc", and if i try to boot up the CD version it will give me red/blue stripes and also not load. My PS2 doesn't like me.
