I have a KT7 Raid mobo with 2 ibm 30gb deskstar drives. I've setup a Raid0 structure and created 2 partitions and formated both drives.

Each time I try to install Win98 (whether I try booting from a floppy or to the cd-rom) it hangs while trying to install the cd-rom drivers.

Any help would appreciated

try using a boot disk with minimul drivers (just enough to get you going). Then copy the entire W98 cd to a hd and install from there.

I had the same problem and ended up making my own boot disk with the cd drivers, fdisk, command.com and a few others. Even then my system froze up twice before taking it, but I hadn't tried copying W98 to my hd. Next time I do a clean install that's the route I'll try.

good luck.

ps if you don't get many hits in this section, try posting in the general forum also.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried everything I can think of but each time I try to install Win98, I get the following message and then it hangs:

This driver is provided by Oak Technology, Inc.
OTI-91X ATAPI CD-ROM device driver, Rev D01XV352
(C)Copyright Oak Technology Inc. 1987-1997
Device Name : MSCD001 (cursor hangs right after the one -- blinking.)

I'ld still try going with a customized boot disk, developing your own autoexec and config.sys. Make certain to load other drivers onto the floppy (mouse, cd rom, ect). The Oakwood is the current "generic" driver but there's an older (simpler and smaller also) driver out there that I used.

I'll scrounge for my boot disk and make a copy of it if you want. Let me know.

edit = looked at home but not here (had to use it at the office and may have left it there). The other cd rom driver is mscdex (had that loaded onto a boot disk for an old dos game). I'll check at work tomorrow and then check this thread and see what the status is.

try waiting awhile, it takes about 30s - 1min before it loads up, just dos being crap, if it has hung, try using a new diskette or loading it without cd support first and adding it when you are in the console
