PC Hanging

Hi, I have got a problem with my computer recently.
The configuration I have got is a PIII 733 on a Asus CUSL-2C MB, SBLive!, Creative RivaTNT2 32MB VRAM and 256MB SDRAM.

Anyway, I tried to install a software onto my system. It started to hang like 10 mins after I start to use it (to surf web, word processing and stuff). It also hangs when I try to use the software (actually its a game).

Initially, I thought it was a virus. Since I couldn't detect it with Norton Anti-Virus software, I decided to reformat my HD and re-install everything all over. However, the problem of the PC hanging didn't go away. Instead, there were two occasions when the PC couldn't boot up properly because it couldn't find the Video card drivers. Note that I have already downloaded the latest Detonator Drivers from Nvidia's website.

Since I have already reformatted the HD, I don't suspect its a HD Problem. Anybody ever gotten this problem before? I am suspecting its the BIOS, but my frens say it might be a video card problem. What do the experts here have to advice? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Since your computer sometimes says it can't find video drivers and you say you've gotten the latest Detonator drivers installed, my guess is that it's a video driver issue. 🙂 I've read a number of cases where people upgraded to Detonator XP drivers and their computer just didn't take it very well. Me, I'm sticking with my Guillemot revision of the 14.10 drivers. Stable, performs quickly enough, and that's fine with me. ^_^

If this happened right after installing the software, you really don't have to look much farther. Was it an older game? Like did it have DirectX 5.0 or less. Sometimes it will install the older version right over the newer version. Try reinstalling DirectX 8.x, whatever you had.

.........edit...........
You also need to switch your video card to Standard PCI Graphics Adapter before you install the newest driver in order to make sure all the currently running files get changed. This is SOP for nvidia drivers.

I also forgot to add that my V770 Ultra ,which was supposed to be 4x, could never run at 4x agp (which is set in bios). You might try turning that off.
