PC got hotter when I moved it

i got a new desk recently...before i had a small desk that had the cubbyhole for the pc. by cubbyhole i mean it was a rectangular box barely large enough for the pc, with a 4" cutout in the side right where my side vent was. i also sawed out the back of that unit for increased airflow out the back. i idled at 36 with my hottest core on the 2500k with hyper 212+.

anyway with my new desk, the pc is completely open on the side with the vent (but sits against the other side, just like the old desk), and the back is about 4" away from the back of the desk. the back is really the only difference between the two...6" away from the wall and open on the right/left behind the pc, or with the new desk, 4" from the back of the desk with the left side open and the right side closed. now i idle at about 40-41c on the hottest core. 5 degrees celsius/10 degrees fahrenheit seems insane!

so is this really enough resistance to cause the pc to heat up this much, or is there something else going on? ambient temp in the room is the same...the pc moved about 5 feet away in the same room as it was before. the video card also is about 2-4 degrees warmer at idle.

is this increase in temp enough to be worried about?

i played dirt 3 for a while and got 52-52-57-53 on the cores under load, whereas before i may have reached only 54 on the hottest core.
